Employment Law

The importance of employment law has increased rapidly because of national legislation, the social dimension of the European Union, and case law based on interpretation of both national legislation and European decisions. Many areas that were considered relatively straightforward have become increasingly complex and more detailed.  Human resource professionals need to advise both senior and line managers on existing and impending employment law.

The module aims to:

  • Equip you with the knowledge and understanding needed to take employment law beyond mere compliance, therefore engaging with employment law in a pro-active rather than re-active manner
  • Discuss how anticipating and evaluating proposed changes in the law, so that organisations can plan, prepare, and implement sound personnel polices will add real value
  • Develop an understanding as to why human resource professionals must be able to advise management about the implication of existing and impending legislation on resource and business objectives

This module will ensure you understand employment law and its impact upon the strategic performance of an organisation. You will be able to critically evaluate current and forthcoming employment legislation as well as relevant concepts and theories.
